Eleanore Pillay is our branch's first Full-time shop steward.

Her involvement in the union space dates back to the days before former UPE incorporated VISTA.

She started in the new role on 1 December 2021 and was appointed for 3 years.   

Eleanore responded to the appointment as follows: 

"It is indeed an honour and a priviledge to be appointed as the first ever FTSS for NTEU, NMU branch.  It has been a long hard road to get to this poit and I am looking forward to the challenges ahead, giving my all to the membership of NTEU and working with the team."  

The FTSS assist employees in grievances; advise, guide and/or represent employees in disciplinary proceedings, and monitor University compliance with policies and collective agreements regulating terms and conditions of employment, incuding the review of these.

The FTSS must endeavour to establish and maintain good relations between NTEU and its members and the University. 

The FTSS must follow all applicable procedures regulating employee relationships and advise the Union to follow these procedures. 

The FTSS must strive for labour peace to be maintained.
